Vancouver Today - e.Update, April 26, 2011

April 26, 2011

From Pastor Roger ...

Dave and Ginny got it right when they were up front on Sabbath morning. They said that this was a church of miracles. It is so true – miracles in building the facility and now miracles as we use that facility to His glory in evangelism. 25 people were baptized or joined by profession of faith last weekend. That's unheard of in most churches! That means that God is working miracles in our church and we need to make sure we spend the time saying, "Yay God!" This seminar wasn't about Richard – no matter how well he did. It wasn't about the message – no matter how truth-filled it was/is. It was about God moving on the hearts of people who came, night-by-night and they had their lives transformed.

God is VERY good! All the time!

Friday Night CelebrationS!!!

This is a very exciting time in our church. So much has happened during this last evangelistic seminar. If you've been reading the emails, you will have seen some of what's happening.

So far, we've had 25 people who we've cleared for baptism or joining by Profession of Faith. Most of those will be Friday evening at 7:15pm (at least one baptism on Sabbath during church). I hope you can join us and celebrate with us the birth of some new family members. There are a few more that will need your prayer support as the seminar finishes and they will join in future weeks.

Secondly, we're having another wedding. Tomorrow night (Friday) at 6:00pm there is a wedding in the fireside chapel. You are invited to come and support this new family in the faith as they take their wedding vows, then get baptized in the 7:15 meeting, and finally a reception open to all after the seminar at 8:15 or so.

We'd like to get all of these new people into a Community Group immediately following the seminar. If you are interested in starting, hosting or leading a group, please contact Pastor Jeff or myself and we'll be glad to supply you with plenty of materials for your group to take in their new believers and help them put their spiritual roots down deep.

It's an awesome time and I love it when we obviously see the Lord leading in such miraculous ways! I love being your pastor!

Vancouver Today - e.Update, April 19, 2011

April 19, 2011

From Pastor Roger ...

There is nothing like seeing a baptism. At every baptism I am taken back to my original decision for Christ. As I watch people now make decisions to come and follow the Lord, and to follow the truths as you and I understand them, I am moved by the power of the Holy Spirit. Clearly, lives are being changed.

There is a baptism this Friday night at 7:15pm. You really won't want to miss.

One of the most important things I have seen is how evangelism changes the community. Each time you get someone off of drugs, it changes the community. Each time you see someone give up alcohol, it changes the community. Each person that decides to quit living an immoral lifestyle, it changes the community. Every person who begins to attend church, it changes the community. What we are doing each evangelistic series, is not only growing our church, not only seeing a number of people get baptized, but it's also having a larger impact on what the shape of the community is like.

During this series, we had over 100 people hear a gospel presentation and asked to turn their lives over to Jesus. We had about 75 new people hear the Sabbath for the first time. We've also seen quite a number of people decide to follow Jesus all the way - with their whole lives. It's always amazing to me to see how people's lives are changed so quickly.

But now is when we must gather around those people. Life Changing decisions happen at events like this, but LIFE-CHANGE happens best in a small group - where people gather around to support these new people. You can play a part in helping them stay here as part of the church. See Pastor Jeff and get in a group, or start a new group right away.

Yea God!

I'm so proud of our church! Two reasons:

1. Last night as I was walking around after the meeting, I couldn't find anyone that I could talk to! Yep, all the guests who lingered after the seminar, were engaged with church members and were talking to someone else. That means we're doing it right, we're getting to know people and everyone is getting to know someone different - that's awesome! Way to go to those people who specifically got into a conversation with some of those new people - relationships will be the glue that will hold them to their commitment to truth. God is using your gifts.

2. I'm also proud of the way we've gathered around one couple who are getting married at 5pm tonight. Sean and Hannah have been living together for 4 years and decided that if they were going to follow God, they should make things right in their relationship. So, tonight in the Fireside Chapel, they are getting married. But what's really cool is the way people have come forward - to buy a cake, to buy the punch, the fix her hair, to buy her clothes and to help them with some of the other logistics. We've really come together to support them and help them to find their way as they seek to follow God. They didn't have a direction in life, now they do and we're helping them.

If you can come to the wedding, that would be cool. Turns out we have another couple in a similar situation have decided that they are going to get married this next Friday afternoon. It would be great if we can support them as well. I'll let you know more details as we approach that time.

God is good! All the time! I love being your pastor!

Vancouver Today - e.Update, April 12, 2011

Continues through April 23.

God is moving in mighty ways!

Night by night, it's amazing to see how people's lives are being changed as they are introduced to Jesus Christ and truths of the Bible. One lady told me that she was told by a friend (who used to be an Adventist) that when she studied the Bible she found the Adventists were the ONLY ones who could back up everything they say with scripture. So, this lady decided to come and see what we were about. My question is, why is her friend no longer an Adventist? Ah! but her friend came for the first time last night.

Also last night, when Richard Halversen preached on the Mark of the Beast, there were 19 people who said they wanted to keep the Sabbath and be baptized! There were an additional 23 people who said they wanted to keep the Sabbath!

God is good! All the time!

Please keep praying for these people. We are inviting them back to church and the potluck this Sabbath again. Plan to stay and meet a new friend. Plan to bring some extra food. Last week was awesome as many of the new people stayed and ate and joined us in making friendships stick - food helps people stick!

If you would like to help these people STICK in the church afterwards, we'd like to get you involved with them in a Community Group. Please let Pastor Roger or Pastor Jeff know if you are interested in helping this happen.

REMINDER: Guests are invited tomorrow

This is just a reminder that we have over 50 guests who will be invited to church tomorrow and to the following potluck lunch afterwards. Tonight they are presented with the topic of the Sabbath and we need to support them as much as possible. If you would plan to come, meet a new friend, and bring some extra food for tomorrow - that would be awesome!

God Bless!

Vancouver Today - e.Update, April 5, 2011

Continues through April 23.

Richard Halversen's Prophecy seminar ...

is ongoing as we write this. We currently have about 50-60 guests coming night-by-night. It's always thrilling to see people get excited about what they are learning and how they begin to apply the Bible to their lives. Friday night will be a big night, as Richard will introduce people to the Sabbath. They need your prayers and they need your support. Two ways your support will be helped:
  1. come Friday night - remember it's not about what you are hearing, but about supporting those who hear it for the first time. Come and meet them, encourage them, and learn a few names
  2. bring extra food with you on Sabbath for the potluck lunch. We're inviting people to come to church and stay for the potluck. Many of them won't stay, but in case they do, we could end up with a ton of more people there. Plan to stay and meet a new friend this weekend.
Upcoming Topics Include:
  • Friday - A Relic Discovered in the Garden of Eden
  • Sabbath (11am) - Creation or Evolution. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going?
  • Saturday night - The world's greatest Cover Up
  • Monday - The Mark of the Beast and the man 666
Each evening starts promptly at 7:15pm. See you there!
