The Mission of the Adventist Community Church is to Reach Deep in Discipleship, Reach Out in Evangelism and Reach Up in Worship.

Prophecies Puzzles

This is a big week.  We had almost 293 people there on opening night of the seminar and that meant 165 registered guests - with quite a few yet unregistered.  Pastor Halversen has been preaching a tremendous message of hope and encouragement that is centered in the gospel.

One greeter couple were out front praying for people on opening night - praying that as they drove back and forth in front of our church that they would decide to come and check it out.  One man came in a little later stating just that - been driving back and forth and decided to step in and see!

Another man came one night because of the crowded parking lot - AFTER THE MEETING WAS OVER - but was given materials and came back on time the next night.

Each night there is a family Bible given away at the close of the meeting.  One man told me, "I hope I don't win that Bible! And if I do win it, I'm going to give it to the pastor so he can give it to the first couple who wants their baby dedicated."  That was a guest saying, I want to pass on the message of God also.

God is doing something incredible about getting this church on track towards the mission of reaching people for Jesus:

  • HE brought a TON of people out to our seminar
  • There are quite a few people ready to start Community Groups as soon as the seminar is over
  • The Worship Team is working on improving the pace and presence of the Worship Service.

God is doing great things and he is moving us forward in some mighty ways.  As one person said recently about what God is doing - Hang on!  And keep praying!

I love being your pastor!

Prophecy's Puzzle Update

One guy in his 20's was heard walking out talking on his cell phone, saying, "It was awesome!  You have to come with me tomorrow...."

Tonight we had about 200-220 guests for the evening, and if you include the kids, about 220-240.  We had a great crowd of people and Richard Halversen did an absolutely incredible job holding their interest, keeping it short and simple, and getting the information out.

It just goes to show when you prepare properly with much prayer, being willing to spend the money to gather a crowd, and trust that the message of Jesus is worth hearing, people will come to listen.  We had a great crew of people on hand to help, greet, enter data, help people find seats after we began to run low, etc.  Thanks to all the helpers.  Thanks to all those who invited someone - those are the true heroes of the evening!

Our Mission: to Reach Deep in Discipleship, Reach Out in Evangelism and Reach Up in Worship is starting to take root and come to fruition.  Praise the Lord.

Please keep us in your prayers as we seek to bring as many of these people along as possible.  Please keep praying for the speaker and the people.

Two Things: Review of Adventism, Prayer

Prayer
Special Prayer - Our Prophecy's Puzzle Revealed seminar begins tonight at 7:30pm.  I hope we'll see you there, because this will truly be exciting and truly be a great experience as we seek to bring people to a message of Jesus.

Attached is a document I would ask you to review and to use as we progress into tonight's seminar.  This is an incredible chance to increase our prayer effectiveness and our prayer team.  Join in and pray at all times, in all places - we have much to pray about and many to pray for.

Review of Adventism
I've heard some really interesting comments lately about how some couldn't invite friends to church, because they are embarassed by our worship service.  Before you jump to conclusions on who might have said that, you need to know I've heard those comments from people who want us to be more traditional, less praise oriented as well as those on the opposite spectrum.

Having recently come from a non-traditional worship service, and pastoring a traditional worship style church before, I find the the worship service is not the crucial issue.  It's what is going on in the heart....  So, I'm personally saddened that anyone would think something so shallow as our style of worship would keep you from inviting others in.

Want it from a non-SDA perspective?  Read this article: http://bit.ly/8ZSayT

This guy hits it on the head.  It's not about style, it's about heart.  It's about what we do with our belief!  You really do need to read it.

GOOD NEWS: Brochures

We just got word back from the post offices and the brochures should
be nearly all delivered today with just a small amount finished up
tomorrow.

I was also corrected by the mailing company that we are not mailing to
the entire county, but only about 130,000 of the county. So, I've
mistakenly been saying the whole county. None-the-less the number I've
been saying is essentially correct.

Thanks for the prayers. Keep praying now that people respond to the
brochures and come on Friday night. I hope you will be there too to
see what God is doing. We have more brohires to hand out of you want
some - stop by the church any afternoon and pick some up.

Make a difference!

Yawners, Maimers and Killers???

The Mission of the Adventist Community Church is to Reach Deep in Discipleship, Reach Out in Evangelism and Reach Up in Worship.

During Roger's Sabbath morning messages, he has been unpacking the concepts of the Mission - Discipleship, Evangelism, and Worship.  This week last week he talked about Discipleship and one of his illustrations was about the difference between Yawners, Maimers and Killers.

Yawners: Those people who come to church only when there is nothing better to do.  They aren't involved, they aren't giving, they don't really care and they do no damage to the enemy's kingdom.

Maimers: These are people who are doing passing damage to the enemy's kingdom.  They are starting to get involved, but it's irregular.  They are starting to give of their tithes and offerings, but it's irregular.

Killers: These people are the ones that LIVE for the kingdom of God and do constant damage to Satan's kingdom.  They are fully devoted disciples of Jesus.

One of our Core Values in our church is: "Full devotion to Christ and His cause is normal."  The expectation is that if you are following Christ, then His cause is normal for you and me.  What does it take to get there?

Community Groups, LIFE Journal/Personal Devotions, Fellowship, Sharing, Accountability, a decision to go all the way with Jesus.

Prophecies Puzzles

This is a big week.  The brochures should be in the mail today or tomorrow.  We are mailing to 137,000 homes in all of Clark County and we're praying that our auditorium in the Worship Center is filled to capacity on Friday night.

We've spent the money to advertise - pray that it works.  We've been praying that the Holy Spirit would cover this county and remove anything that would keep people from responding.  We're praying that people's hearts are soft.

Please spend some time inviting someone to come this week!

Is Jonah Real????

The Mission of the Adventist Community Church is to Reach Deep in Discipleship, Reach Out in Evangelism and Reach Up in Worship.

During Roger's Sabbath morning messages, he has been unpacking the concepts of the Mission - Discipleship, Evangelism, and Worship.  This Week's message is on Discipleship.  Worship - last week's message - isn't built around the idea that the preacher did a good job, nor the program ran smoothly, nor that they sang my favorite songs.  Worship is about coming together to focus on God.  Worship is a choice, not a program.  And it's about what happens in your heart.

This little girl had it in her heart:
A little girl was observed by her pastor standing outside the preschool Sunday School classroom between Sunday School and worship, waiting for her parents to come and pick her up for "big church." The pastor noticed that she clutched a big storybook under her arms with the obvious title, "Jonah and the Whale." Feeling a little playful, he knelt down beside the little girl and began a conversation. "What¹s that you have in your hand?", he asked. "This is my storybook about Jonah and the Whale," she answered. "Tell me something, little girl," he continued, "do you believe that story about Jonah and that whale to be the truth?" The little girl implored, "Why of course I believe this story to be the truth!" He inquired further, "you really believe that a man can be swallowed up by a big whale, stay inside him all that time, and come out of there still alive and OK? You really believe all that can be true?" She declared, "Absolutely, this story is in the Bible and we studied about it in Sunday School today!" Then the pastor asked, "Well, little girl, can you prove to me that this story is the truth?" She thought for a moment and then said, "Well, when I get to Heaven, I¹ll ask Jonah." The pastor then asked, "Well, what if Jonah¹s not in Heaven?" She then put her hands on her little hips and sternly declared, "Then YOU can ask him!"

As we gear up for the upcoming Halversen seminar, we need to have you involved in the seminar.  Our biggest needs are always greeters and row hosts.  But we'll also need people to enter information into our database, ushers, parking lot people, and in the kids areas.

Keep a look out over the next few weeks for the sign-up pages at church, or you can head on over to VancouverAdventist.com and fill out the form there.

Voted Mission and Vision

The Mission of the Adventist Community Church is to Reach Deep in Discipleship, Reach Out in Evangelism and Reach Up in Worship.
This mission signals to all of us that there are three basic functions of the church - to experience Discipleship, take part in Evangelism and come together to Worship.

At the Church Business Meeting on March 7, we had a crowd here at the church as we outlined the Mission and Vision of our church.  The mission above, is only one piece of it.  Each of the pieces come together to make a package that will launch us into the future - where people put down their spiritual roots, where we are naturally and normally reaching the community for Christ, and where we will truly worship our creator God regularly together.

We'll be unpacking pieces of that mission and vision in the coming weeks of our regular email.  Say tuned....
