Food Baskets for Thanksgiving

I just received a phone call from Wayne Alvarez, our Head Elder, and he knows of a company that is looking for 20-30 names of people who need a food basket for Thanksgiving. They are willing to put together the basket and do the deliveries. Praise the Lord for Christians in business!

If you have any names AND their need, please send it to the church office

Thanks!

Spirit of Thank You
About 5 or 6 years ago, on a warm November day, I found myself out on the golf course with my neighbor.  We barely knew each other and we teamed up with someone who came to play that day by himself.  It was a fun day getting acquainted with some new people.  About half-way through the course, I stopped and noticed the older gentleman's hat - it was the the insignia of the USS ???   I asked him if he had served in the military or if he had a son on that ship now?  He assured me that it was him, he had served on that ship in WWII.

All of a sudden I remembered that it was Veteran's Day - November 11.  I turned to him and said simply, "Thank you for serving your country and for allowing us the freedoms we now have."  This older gentleman actually teared up briefly and said words I will never forget.  "Thank you!  No one has ever said thanks before."

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day - it's a day to say THANK YOU to our veterans - those who have fought in our wars whether we agreed or not, they fought to maintain the values of a free society.  Please take the time tomorrow to say thanks to a vet - whether it be someone in Wal-Mart, Winco, or at Work.  Whether it be a family member or someone you don't know.  They deserve our thanks.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Baptisms
This week we have two more baptisms planned during the worship service.  It's exciting to see how God is leading in people's lives and how he continues to move us to reach out to them.  Please keep these new people - and those almost ready - in your prayers.

Prayer Meeting
Some have asked when we might start a prayer meeting.  Well, we actually have many prayer meetings going on - in the form of the Conference Call Prayer Meeting on Tuesday's at 6:30am (Call: 1-518-825-1300 , Login: *938161#) or via our Community Groups.  These groups meet in homes and study the Bible.  They also meet at various times of the week.  If you'd like more information, please see Pastor Danny.

Wired Up!
It became evident again what I was wired up for.  On Wednesday I was pondering a question of a member who was urging me to be more of a nurturer kind of pastor.  After much discussion and reading emails, blogs, and listening about it, I began to wonder if I was making the right choices.  Wednesday evening, I stayed after to talk with an individual that is attending our Decoding Prophecy Seminar.  After giving three gospel presentations and not getting this individual to commit to anything, I backed off.  But I knew God had gotten through to this individual and it was now only a matter of time.  I knew that I was doing what God had wired me up for!

When that individual stood to request baptism last night, I nearly screamed!  It was so awesome to see God working.  I was reminded again, that God didn't wire me up as a nurturer pastor, he created me to be more of an evangelist who wins people to Jesus.  And over the years, I've been fortunate to see hundreds come to Jesus.

We need the nurturing team members just as much as we need the evangelistic team members.  Understanding who has what gifts will be primary in finding everyone's niche.  Community Groups will also play a very large part in the nurturing process.

But I was reminded again this week that my top gifts are Leadership, Evangelism and Preaching/Teaching.  Do you know what yours are?  Would you like to find out?

I love being your pastor!

Decoding Prophecy Update
Pastor Danny has been doing a great job.  He is obviously in his comfort zone when he's preaching and telling people about Jesus.  Despite the poor start from our brochures not getting delivered in time, God has been blessing and about 6 or 7 people have already requested baptism.  There is a baptism scheduled for this weekend and next.

Pastor Jeff organized the kids programming to be primarily operated by the Youth Class.  They have been telling the stories, teaching the same material that Danny has been preaching about, as well as doing most of it.  It's awesome to see the "kids" begin to take ownership of the scheduling and speaking in those areas.

Tonight is the last night to come out and listen.  Next the Evangelism Coordination Team will begin planning for and getting ready for the upcoming seminar with Richard Halversen in March 2010.  God is definitely on the move in Vancouver and great things are about to happen in the areas of discipleship, community and evangelism.  Keep praying!

FYI - What's Happening!

2009-10-27

Sunday Evening we held a business meeting at the church - sounds like fun, right?  But actually we heard many good comments about the process.  Some were very glad we moved the nominating committee vote out of the worship time.  Even though there were less people to vote on the issues, they just don't seem like a worship thing to do....  Others expressed a big learning moment when Dave Cannard presented the budget and where our ministry offerings go.  The budget was approved.  The Nominating Committee Report was approved.  The Mission/Vision generated some very good discussion and questions.

Decoding Prophecy - Danny is doing a masterful job of preaching the word to the people coming out night-by-night to the seminar.  This week's meeting schedule is as follows:
  • Tuesday - What Happens when you die
  • Wednesday - When the Smoke Clears
  • Thursday - Making a New Start
  • Friday - The Battle for the Throne
  • Sabbath Morning - The Great Pretender
  • Sabbath Evening - Forever Marked

Church Finances - as those who came to the business meeting heard, we are nearly $10,000 off budget for the fiscal year already (which started September 1).  These are economically tough times, but please remember that your support of the church budget includes such "mundane" things are providing programming for our kids, giving out regular reading materials for personal discipleship, providing a place to hold seminars, meetings and Community Groups, a place to fellowship and visit.  The heartbeat of the church is ministry to others - those are the things the church budget really supports.  Thank you for your support.

Please Pray - Perhaps you saw on Facebook.  Pastor Gene Heinrich's mother was recently diagnosed with cancer.  Please also pray for the seminar.  Please pray for the finances of the church.  Please pray for the mission/vision team to complete their work and that we all move forward in alignment.  Please pray for the many sick and hurting.  Please pray for those looking for work.  Please pray for each other - just to support someone else in prayer.
