From Rome
Meetings open in 5 days.  Anticipation is building up.

Well, first the good news.  Shawn Boonstra and Palmer Halvorson, Shawn's right hand man, arrived safely in Rome this morning.  They're tired but in good health and excited to be here.

Now, the bad news.  Within one hour of Shawn's arrival I received a phone call from the Adventist Union president.  His voice was somber and I could tell something was wrong.  He informed me that the local church authorities had seen our advertising about the upcoming series of meetings (praise God for all of our faithful members).  Consequently, they have set up a meeting with the director of the school where the meetings are to be held to inquire about why he would let a protestant group hold meetings there.  The meeting with the director will be tomorrow, Tuesday, and there is a real possibility that we will be denied access to the hall as a result.

As you can imagine, this is a very serious predicament we find ourselves in.  All our advertising is directing people to that hall.  If we are unable to use that beautiful facility we will have to move the meetings to the nearest Adventist church which has a much smaller capacity.  Can you imagine the nightmare of redirecting people upon arrival to a different location and a church of all places?  In some parts of the world, that's no big deal.  But in a city like Rome it's easier said than done.

Someone does not want people to hear the everlasting gospel.  We are not surprised.  However, we need divine intervention.  We need you to pray.  Pray that the meeting between the school director and the local church authorities will go well and that we will be able to use their hall without any more problems.  Pray that whatever happens, God will see us through this storm and enable us to successfully open our meetings to the glory of Jesus on Saturday night.

On an encouraging note, if the local church authorities have noticed our advertising, it means that people are paying attention.  It has triggered an interest, a buzz among people.  Furthermore, the attempt to shut us down also indicates that something great and awesome is about to happen.  Otherwise, why bother?

Thank you for your faithful prayers.
God bless,
Yves Monnier
