From Pastor Roger - Forget about it! We have all kinds of tools to help us remember. Alarms on our smart phones and computers. Post-it notes on the dashboard of the car. Does anybody still tie a string around their finger? We're more likely to write a note on the palm of our hand with a Sharpie or log it into our smart phone. Forgetting things is not anywhere on the list of the seven, or eleven, or twenty, or even two secrets of success. Day planners, smart phones, Google calendars, all kinds of devices exist to help us remember every detail of our life. There is a time when forgetting is a good thing. God has deliberately chosen to forget all of our wrongdoing. He was willing to pay the ultimate price to blot them out. Micah writes: "Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea." Micah 7:18, 19 (NIV) The ultimate forgetting is beautifully described in Revelation 21:1-4: Then I saw 'a new heaven and a new earth,' for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Paul understood about forgetting. "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." 1 Cor. 2:2 (NIV). Paul was intelligent, educated, eloquent – many things we value in a person. But he says here that he deliberately, intentionally forgets everything in his life except Jesus Christ so that he can concentrate on ministry to and fellowship with the Corinthians. How amazing would our lives be if we intentionally forget everything in and around our life except Jesus? | | What's happening > TOMORROW, 6 p.m. - CHURCH BUSINESS MEETING to review and approve the new church budget. >Harvest Festival, Oct. 31, 5:30 pm.
