	eNews Adventist Community Church 2009-07-28 From a Friend of Mine: It is so easy to get discouraged, depressed, and subdued when we are imprisoned by our circumstances. But Paul never let that happen. Throughout the book of Acts, we find him singing praises and hymns while in jail, we find him ministering to broken jailers while he is still in chains, and we find him boldly professing his faith (e.g. "I believe in the resurrection of the dead") while testifying to the high officials. Paul does not let his circumstances dictate his mission, vision, and values. He has surrendered that to God and is unwavering in his quest to free others from the bondage of sin. I sometimes aspire for the kind of drive and unyielding faith Paul exhibited. I long for the type of Damascus Road experience he went through - yet, strangely, I don't know if that was a "fun" experience. I imagine, like Isaiah's experience recorded in the sixth chapter of his book, it was terrifying. However, it certainly left a lasting impression upon those men and changed the course and velocity of their lives. Maybe, like most of my relationships, based on the way I'm built, the slow, steady building of my relationship with God is the best approach. Maybe? Hmmm… me thinks that my Father knows best and that I should leave the course, trajectory, and velocity of our relationship in His hands. Good words for us today, I think, don't you? FLAG Camp This week's FLAG Camp is going really well - opening day saw a record 40 kids show up to join in the Fun Learning About God.  The kids have survived the heat and survived the counselors (grin).  Many kids from the community and have no affiliation with the church are here.  Pray for those kids to begin a journey with God. FYI - What's Happening FLAG Camp Continues this week - EVEN though it's the hottest week of the year?  Could it be it's HOT because FLAG Camp is so hot?! Chuck Davis Memorial

Chuck Davis Memorial will be Sunday at 11:00 AM at the Seventh-day Adventist Community Church here in Vancouver.  All are welcome to come and express their sorrow, their condolences, etc.  Please continue to remember the family in your prayers and phone calls as they seek to deal with their loss!

eNews - Adventist Community Church - 2009-07-21

Welcome to the eNews!   Many things are happening around here right now and much to look for.  Here's the FYI - What's Happening Section: Jennifer LaMountain and Steve Darmody are scheduled to do a concert on August 29 at our church.  We're looking for sponsors to help fund that cost - We've currently raised about 1/3 of the $1600 needed.  If you are interested in having them, please contact the church office and let us know that you would be willing to help sponsor the concert. This weekend - Pastor Danny Kim preaches his first of many sermons in Vancouver.  Plan to come! Chuck Davis News

it is with a very sad heart that we must announce the passing of Chuck Davis.  After suffering with cancer for several years, he went to sleep in Jesus this morning.  Please pray for Verda Lee and the rest of the family as they deal with their loss.  Chuck was ready to go to sleep.  He knew Jesus.  

I worked for Chuck while in College for a short time.  I knew him as a kind man who was full of grace.  He knew and lived by God's grace as well.

Campmeeting

To some - it sounds crowded....

To others - it sounds old-fashioned....

To still others - it sounds like a time of spiritual refreshment!!!!

Campmeeting is designed around all ages - birth to aged.  Early morning speakers, evening speakers, classes during the day.  

There's more to campmeeting than just the crowds - Some of the best and most inspiring speakers in all of Adventism will be here this week - and you need to take the time to hear them!  Jose Rojas, Dick Dureksen, and many others.  You will find the schedule of all that is happening, attached.

I would like to have a health ministries blurb on the enews about fitness please see the following attachments. I will be handing out the fitness record to interested parties on Sabbath school, but would like folks to know about the way to sign up to log their miles for fitness online. This logging has been created by Don Hall from Wellsource as a service. Once can purchase more help I believe. I found this in the health ministries section that I just discovered this week.  The healthe educator at the hospital just told me about it.

I find it odd to have meetings about walking when we should be walking.

	eNews - Adventist Community Church     We All Like a Standing Ovation  Tony Morgan For many weeks, our son, Jacob, tried to make the transition that would allow him to ride his bicycle without training wheels. This made for a grueling summer, literally involving blood, sweat, and tears. And it was hard on Jacob as well. After about a dozen failed attempts, my wife Emily grabbed the back of the bike for another running launch. This time Jacob was determined to do it on his own and so, declining his mom's assistance, he said, "Just cheer for me, Mommy." Then he took off on his own and kept on pedaling all the way home—to the cheers of his mom and the rest of the family. Like Jacob, we aren't always looking for a push. Instead, we just want someone to cheer for us. We all need cheerleaders. We all need people who will encourage us to do the next right thing. From time to time, we all need standing ovations. We need others to affirm that we're moving in the right direction and that they recognize the value of our contributions. In the church, we give praise to God, but we tend to be uneasy about praising others. This is unfortunate because I believe God created us with a need to hear "well done" from time to time. It's probably why God instructs us to "love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other" (Romans 12:10). God wants us to encourage each other because he knows that affirmation breathes life into each of us. So the next time you catch a soloist, a teacher, a children's worker, or an usher "knocking the ball out of the park," don't hesitate to stand up and cheer.
